BASICS OF INDUSTRIAL AUTOMATION USING OMRON PLC
(3-SESSION COURSE IN 2 DAYS) DETAILED COURSE CONTENTS This 2-day course provides a comprehensive introduction to the Omron range of Programmable Logic Control (PLC) and the PLC programming software. After completing this course, students will be able to familiarize with the PLC Programming system, and write a program for conveyor motor control, packaging control, and traffic lights control. This course will also prepare students to pass the Basics of Industrial Automation using OMRON PLC competency test.

MODULE 1 -INTRODUCTION TO AUTOMATION SYSTEM
 Define the Automation Control System
 States the need of Automation Control System in the industry
 States of the Fixed Automation / Hard-Wire Control System
 Differentiate between Fixed Automation with Programmable Automation
 State the basic concepts of pneumatic control systems, hydraulic control systems and electrical control systems
 Classification of pneumatic control systems, hydraulic control systems and electrical control systems
 Distinguish between the pneumatic control system, hydraulic control system and electrical control systems

MODULE 2 -TERMINOLOGY
 Define the terminology of control systems, reference input, control variables, disturbances and feedback elements
 Explain the open-loop control system, closed-loop control and computerized controls
 Comparing between the open-loop control system with closed-loop control system

MODULE 3 -INTRODUCTION TO PLC
 Definition of PLC
 Define PLC terminologies
 Background PLC
 The function of PLC and types of construction
 Advantages of PLCs

MODULE 4 -PLCHARDWARE DESIGN
 Hardware design of PLC
 Function and operation of the hardware unit

MODULE 5 -PROGRAMMING
 Familiarize with the PLC Programming system
 Able to explain PLC programming method using Ladder Diagram and mnemonic code, Instruction set and logic function.
 Understand and use Ladder Diagram and mnemonic code to solve control systems circuits
 Explain the following logic instruction set: LOAD. LOAD NOT, OUT, AND, AND NOT, OR, OR NOT, AND LD and OR LD
 Explain sequential instruction set: NO OPERATION, END, INTERLOCK, JUMP, KEEP, SET/RESET and DIFFERENTIAL UP/DOWN
 Explain the timer and Counter instruction set and execute TIMER/COUNTER application solution methods
 Lab: Write a program for Conveyor Motor Control
 Lab: Write a program for packaging control
